A lot of data migration tools focus only on the biggest players in storage like Google and Microsoft. And while Movebot can move data into and out of the most popular storage platforms, we also support many other smaller storage providers too. In fact, Movebot is one of the few data migration tools that has native support for pCloud migrations. And while we only support the platform as a source, it's still a simple way to move your data from pCloud to any other supported storage platform, and you won't find a faster or easier option to migrate data from pCloud.
pCloud is a cloud storage platform based in Switzerland and is considered a competitor to personal Google Drive and Dropbox accounts. With a "free forever" plan that gives a generous 10GB, pCloud also has several tiers of storage plans including plans for individuals, families, and businesses.
Unlike some other cloud storage platforms like Dropbox and Google Workspace, pCloud doesn't have a built-in document collaboration system. This can make it a challenge for using it for an organization, but when being used purely for storage there are a number of features that make it an attractive option.
One option that sets pCloud apart is the option for lifetime storage. For less than the price of paying for 5 years of service, users can get a lifetime plan with a single one-off payment. Lifetime plans are available for both individuals and families. There is currently no lifetime plan for Businesses, and standard Business plans include 1 or 2TB of storage per user.
Along with being accessible through a web browser, pCloud also offers a desktop application for Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. The app can be used both for backups and as a two-way sync, though we caution about relying on this kind of syncing system.
While all files are secured with 256-bit AES on pCloud, pCloud Encryption goes a step further by offering higher-grade encryption through an annual or lifetime plan. The company uses a zero-knowledge system where administrators are unable to preview or access files in the encrypted drive.
For this new encryption that pCloud claims is "military-grade", pCloud is offering a $100k reward to any hacker that can get through it. As of this writing, pCloud claims that it has yet to be broken. The encryption method is client-side encryption that uses a crypto pass to encrypt and decrypt files. After activating a subscription for pCloud encryption, a new folder will appear in the drive, and any file or folder within that folder will be encrypted and require the crypto pass to decrypt. There is no other way to access those files, including requesting help from the support team.
The downside to this kind of encryption is that the crypto pass works like a double-edged sword. While pCloud administrators or anyone else won't have access to your files, if you somehow lose your pass, you won't be able to access them either. Because of this, it's recommended to only keep the most important or sensitive files in the encryption folder.

Connecting pCloud as a source in Movebot is simple and only takes a few minutes. First, either start a new project or choose to add a new storage connection, and choose pCloud as your connection type. From there, click the Link to pCloud button and choose to give access to couchdrop-pcloud (Couchdrop is Movebot's parent company). Test the connection and you're ready to start your migration.
Like with any other cloud storage migration, all you have to do is follow our simple 3-step migration plan of Plan, Advance, Cutover to PAC and move from pCloud to your new destination.
The first step of a migration with Movebot is planning. But instead of having to plan out employee downtime and your lunch breaks around running the migration, you can plan what files you want to move instead, because with Movebot, there's no downtime required.
How we're able to do this is that Movebot works as a copy operation instead of a cut function. Movebot analyzes the source, decides what needs to be done to make the data compatible, then makes a copy of the data with these changes and puts it in the destination. Because the original files are never touched, there's no need for users to stop working in the pCloud source, even while the migration is ongoing. Any changes will be caught with delta migrations, explained more in the Cutover section.
Another thing that sets Movebot apart is that Movebot can move and transform the data at the same time. If you have filenames that are incompatible with the destination--or simply want to make some changes--you can let Movebot handle it for you automatically. Reasonable defaults for the most common issues are set up for you automatically, but you can disable data transformation rules if you wish in Expert options if you have an unusual or complicated case.
For planning what files to move, there are a couple of ways you can do this with Movebot. One is with filtering that you can set up while configuring your migration project. Movebot lets you filter by size, extension, name, and more, so you can isolate the files you actually want to migrate and move only those to the destination.
The other option is when setting up your transfers. With Movebot, you can set transfers to the folder level instead of having to move the entirety of pCloud to the destination in one massive job. This not only works to give you control of when objects are moved, but which ones are moved as well. If there's a folder you don't want to move (or if you want to move it somewhere else like a block storage archival platform), simply leave it out of the move. You can easily move that folder later to another destination by setting up another project, keep it in pCloud, or delete it if you don't need it.
Once you've planned what you want to move it's time to Advance to the migration itself.

You can continue setting up additional transfers while others are running, schedule some to run at a set time, or scan other directories in pCloud and make sure they're good to go.
When the bulk of the data is moved over, finish off with Cutover.
Once you've had some successful transfers, it's time for the Cutover phase. Here is where you'll run delta migrations and check that the data migrated successfully.
Delta migrations in Movebot are the reason users can keep working in the pCloud source, even while the migration is running. With Movebot, delta migrations analyze the source and destination, find anything that's new or newer in the source, and then move that over to the destination.
