Movebot and BitTitan are both data migration tools, but they have a different focus, meaning they have different strengths and weaknesses.
Yes, we think Movebot is better, and yes, you’re on the Movebot site so that shouldn’t be a surprise. But like everything we do, we aim to keep things straightforward, so we’ll highlight some advantages of MigrationWiz and when they might be the better option so you can compare both products easily.
Often just called “BitTitan” (we’ll use the names interchangeably here), MigrationWiz has been in the mailbox migration game since 2009 and is now managed by Idera, Inc. Chances are if someone wanted to move mailboxes and either couldn’t use native migration tools–or those tools couldn’t handle the job–they’d end up using BitTitan to get it done and let users hit the ground running.
While we may be the New Kids on the Block, with Movebot, You Got It (The Right Stuff) for data migrations. Movebot saw the traditional approach to data migrations and reversed it, focusing on simplicity and efficiency over multiplicity; we do one thing–migrate data–and we do it really well. We’ve changed the migration journey from a marathon with a complex set of twists, turns, and walls to a straight road with cruise control anyone can navigate.
Platform support is probably the most important part of a data migration too. If your platform isn't supported, you can't use the tool. It's that simple.
BitTitan’s bread and butter is mailbox migrations, and they cover those really well. Since they’ve been at it for over a decade, they know how to efficiently migrate encrypted emails, flagged emails, out-of-office replies, mailbox rules, archives, signatures, and so on. In Office 365 they can migrate Teams conversations (to some extent) and Active Directory too.
When it comes to files though, they’re limited to a few of the most popular platforms–Azure Files, Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Workspace, and OneDrive for Business, but can generally get everything moved across.
Movebot takes the opposite approach with a files-first method to data migrations. We support over 30 different platforms, from the common ones that MigrationWiz can handle to object storage like Backblaze and Wasabi to specialties like BIM360 Docs. And we can do on-prem to cloud migrations too, including SharePoint legacy to SharePoint online. For most of those platforms, you can migrate bi-directionally and break down the source moves into smaller transfers with far greater control than any other migration platform.
Movebot supports mailboxes as well, including the option to move mailbox data to the cloud for storage or archival. With mailboxes, Movebot can move users, contacts, and calendars efficiently, but we don’t go into the nitty gritty parts like moving filters and signatures.
When it comes to integrations, the better option will depend on what you need to migrate.
Movebot wins on platform compatibility pretty handily for file migrations, and can also do basic mailbox migrations quickly. You can even migrate emails to an archival platform, or move between file and object storage.
However if you have a complex email setup with a lot of users who want to move everything exactly as is like signatures, OOO replies and so on, MigrationWiz can move more elements to the new mail platform.
While Movebot can move emails between users, labels, and inboxes and has greater flexibility, if what you need is to move a complicated mailbox setup as is, MigrationWiz is a stronger choice.
One of the common reasons organizations migrate data is to move to a new platform with either better savings or a greater value, so it's important the benefits aren't outweighed by an outrageous cost.
On the pricing page for MigrationWiz, you’ll find 10 different license options to choose from, each with its own set of features and requirements. Pricing starts at $12 per user for mailbox migrations, which includes up to 50GB of data.
Getting the right license is important because certain functionality is locked behind specific licenses. Each license has to be assigned to a user before you can do anything, and you won’t be able to perform certain actions if you bought the wrong one.
Pricing for Movebot is simple and straightforward, with the fat pre-trimmed so you don’t pay for things you don’t need. We use a pay-as-you-go model, where you pay per GB (starting at $0.75 per GB with lower rates when you move more) for the amount of data moved. And that’s it.
It doesn’t matter if that data is in files, emails, calendars, or a mix of dozens of mailboxes, team drives, and personal drives. It’s all the same price, which for migrating low-data mail users can cost under $1 to migrate them. We also cap the cost of an individual mailbox at a maximum of 10GB. To put that in perspective, if a user has 50GB, you’ll only pay for 10GB and the rest is free.
Trying to navigate through what you’ll pay for MigrationWiz is a mission in itself, and even if you do figure it out, you’ll find that it’s more expensive than Movebot. Even mailboxes, which are a minimum of $12 for MigrationWiz, max out at $7.50 for Movebot because we treat all data the same.
When it comes to pricing, Movebot flips the M upside down and takes the W.
Getting started and trying the product out is important, because no matter how good it looks on paper it's important that you can navigate it in practice.
MigrationWiz has a free trial that anyone can sign up for on the website. Kind of. You can start the process by filling out a trial request form that includes information about you and your project, then you’ll have to wait for a sales representative to provision a trial for you. This doesn’t require a credit card, but you still need to wait for someone to get in touch instead of being able to jump right in.
Once you’ve logged in, some endpoints require setting up custom support rules to change settings, so you’ll need to keep BitTitan’s Advanced Options resource guide up if you need to make fine-tuned adjustments.
At Movebot, we think the best way to experience the tool is to use it yourself, so we don’t put up any barriers to signing up. Anyone can sign up without a credit card, going through a sales call, or anything like that. Just click to start a trial, sign up with our quick registration form, and you’ll get an account with 50GB.
Connecting platforms is just as easy. Most require a simple connection via OAuth, and the ones that require extra steps still only take a few minutes at most.
Signing up is pretty easy for both platforms, and neither requires a credit card. The main difference is that with Movebot, you can sign up and try it out immediately. Configuration is also a little easier on Movebot, thanks to a lot of settings that are sorted for you automatically. You can still fiddle with settings in Expert Options, but the default settings are right for the majority of migrations without you having to figure them out for yourself.
Point for Movebot.
In most instances, a good migration tool will work most of the time. But because of all the different platforms it has to communicate with, there's a chance something weird will happen. And when it does, you'll want to make sure you're taken care of.
Over at BitTitan, they claim to have 95% customer satisfaction and industry-leading support. Along with 24/7 availability, there’s a help center and resources section so that users can find information and help on their own. Onboarding is available for purchase to help with setup for more complex setups, but there is no add-on for streamlined support, with standard response times of about 24 hours.
Here at Movebot, our migration tool might be next-gen, but we take a last-gen approach to support. And by that, we mean good old-fashioned customer support run by human experts you can get in touch with directly.
Instead of an outsourced team, the in-house support team knows the ins and outs of Movebot better than anyone and give you a personalized response to your issue instead of a generic template. Standard support is available free to everyone with a typical 6-hour response, and not just a “we’ll get back to you at some point” either.
If you’re an MSP partner with Premium Support, response time lowers to 1-hour with a clear escalation path for emergencies.
Reviews and forums frequently mention BitTitan’s support as a weak point, even for users who like everything else about MigrationWiz. While running into issues is uncommon, if something comes up a lot of users report frustrations and unsatisfactory responses that don’t address the problem.
For Movebot, Customer Support is consistently mentioned as a major highlight. Users love that they can get in touch with an expert and get a response to their specific issue and that someone who knows what they’re doing will look out for them if they have an emergency.
Maybe the most clear-cut difference in this comparison, Movebot dominates on the customer support front.
Comparing features is useful and all, but what do users say about using the tool itself?
On Channel Program, MigrationWiz is currently sitting just shy of 4 stars with 12 reviews. On the pros side, MigrationWiz can move multiple mailbox types like cPanel-type boxes, and that they can grab everything from a mailbox and move it to a new platform. For downsides, it’s mostly related to getting help or provisioning licenses correctly.
Movebot is also on Channel Program, with about 4.5 stars and 12 reviews. Customers are thrilled with the number of platform integrations, migration speed, and the exceptional support team. Negatives are around the number of features and guided training, which is available free to any user but isn’t a requirement to sign up and use Movebot.
For both products, users are happy when things go as expected. Users agree that both Movebot and MigrationWiz deliver on what they say. It’s when weird things come up that Movebot’s support and ease of setup become an advantage.
For those keeping score, Movebot comes ahead in most metrics. When it comes down to it, if you have a complicated mailbox setup and want to keep it as is without having to remake anything, MigrationWiz might be right for you. But if you want to move mailboxes and files with greater flexibility, more control, and stronger support at a lower price, at least give Movebot a try.
While we listed out the pros and cons with links to reviews from users who have used the products, really, the best way to know if BitTitan or Movebot is right for you is to try out both products. Forget complex pricing based on users and licenses. Simply pay for the amount of data you move and nothing else.
Fantastic experience... We were able to do a file migration for a high-priority / high-touch client and move them to Azure AD from their on-prem environment in approximately 48 hours. The scanning and the data move itself really felt seamless. Thank you so much for the tool and to your incredible team!

We needed a tool for moving large data sets with detailed enough logging to give us confidence in the successful move of millions of files and folders. Previous tools we used choked on large data sets (>1TB or > 1 Million files) or the logging was too simplistic for us know find errors or have confidence in deleting the source data set at the end of the migration. Movebot solved this for us.
The best part of Movebot is their account managers and support team. They are eager to help and provide migration solutions. Their product is amazing! No convoluted directions and steps to do a migration. You enter the source and destination account and let Movebot work their magic!

I tried several competitors, and there was always something: lack of human contact, price, quality, speed, etc. I started looking around and ended up meeting with the VP of Sales for Movebot, he jumped on a call, and we went over the product, capability, and next steps and WOW. I have been using Movebot for a while now, and to be honest, there is no one out there doing the job the way they do.
Edgar, Channel Program Review
Movebot's support team was legendary in their quick responses and willingness to jump on a video conference to talk through how to resolve the problems. They have deep knowledge of their product and of the file storage platforms their solution is built for. We can approach future migrations with a lot less trepidation – given the accuracy and speed of Movebot, but especially because of their support team.
Anthony, Channel Program Review
It works. The interface is smooth and easy to learn and understand. Better yet, an engineer walks you through your first setup and makes sure that whatever you are trying to do (migrate a large sum of files from Dropbox to Google Drive) is set up correctly. This comes with the knowledge of not just the tool, but the nuances that make working with two different platforms and their respective limitations. An example of this was the engineer knowing that Google has a limit on file size, so they offered a workaround instead of having me try it out, let it fail, get frustrated, and then try again. They turned a stressful situation into a non-stress thanks to their technical proficiency and ability to talk to me as a customer/client to meet my needs. Can't speak highly enough of this company.
